- Motion is good, and priced for scale. Its own FAQ says it fits best when you launch 10+ creatives and spend $25K+ a month on Meta. If that's you, it earns the price.
- PirateAds is a competitor record first. Run durations on every competitor ad, sunk ads kept, free to read. Motion's Inspo covers competitor ads too, but Motion is built around your own account.
- Check which Motion you searched for. Motion creative analytics (motionapp.com) and the Motion AI calendar app are different companies. This page is about the ad tool.
Two things to know before reading. We make PirateAds. And Motion is part of why it exists: we were a paying customer. This page is the comparison we wanted back then, dated and specific, including the parts where we lose. Every Motion figure was re-checked on 29 September 2026.
Motion is good. Start there.
Motion is the most complete creative-analytics platform aimed at DTC. By its own numbers, 2,100 teams use it and its customers analyze more than $14B in ad spend a year. The product has moved fast in 2026:
- AI agents. Motion's AI teammate pre-watches, tags and analyzes every creative you've run, and ships briefs, hooks and reports into Slack. It also flags likely flops before launch.
- Video analysis. Motion describes analyzing video drop-off frame by frame, alongside placements and demographics.
- Inspo. Follow competitor brands, filter their Meta ads by days active and status, and organize them into boards.
- Reach. Meta is its deepest integration, with TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn reporting, Northbeam and GA4 attribution on Pro, and MCP access for AI assistants.
Motion's own FAQ says it works best if you launch 10 or more creatives and spend at least $25K a month on Meta. That is an honest filter, and a useful one for deciding whether you're the customer.
What Motion costs in 2026
Motion prices by your monthly ad spend. On 29 September 2026 its pricing page listed Starter at $750 a month up to $50K in spend, Pro at $1,200 above $50K, and Growth ("let's chat") above $125K. Starter and Pro both include unlimited seats and ad accounts. Every plan starts with a demo call. The homepage says the trial needs no card, but the trial length isn't published.
You will still see $250 quoted around the web, including on one of Motion's own pages. Treat anything undated as stale. Prices drift like tides.
Where PirateAds is behind
PirateAds is Meta only. We don't have AI agents that watch your videos or auto-tag your own creatives (we classify competitor ads by the angle they run). There's no Slack integration, no attribution integration yet (a Shopify connection is coming), and no customer success team, just a crew that answers email. We launched in 2026, and a brand's history in the hold begins the day it was first tracked (June 2026 at the earliest).
The biggest gap today: your own ad account. Your Ads, Hook & Hold and Campaigns are built and running on our own account, but they open to every customer only after Meta finishes reviewing our app. We submitted it in September 2026. Until then, PirateAds is a competitor tool. If you need own-account analytics this week, Motion is the better buy.
Where PirateAds is ahead
A competitor record you can read free
Motion's Inspo now filters competitor ads by days active and status, so the gap is smaller than it was. What PirateAds adds is price and permanence. Every brand in the shared hold (246 brands and 31,019 ads at last count) is readable on the free tier, each ad shows how long it has sailed, and sunk ads stay with their run dates. 1,537 stopped ads are in the hold so far. Since run duration is the best public signal of what works, that record is where a competitor's strategy shows.
Hook & Hold, in seconds
Once it opens to your account, Hook & Hold reads every video ad on a seconds axis. Meta reports the 3-second mark and 25/50/75/95% of each video; PirateAds maps each to its second and compares your ad with the median of your own account at the same second. A 15-second ad and a 70-second ad are never compared at "25% in". It answers one question well: where viewers jump ship, and whether that's worse than your usual. Motion goes further by watching the video itself.
The price and the door
Start free with an email. No card, no demo call, no pricing tied to your ad spend. Paid plans (launching) are priced by seats and brands tracked: $59, $119, $279 and $749 a month.

So which one?
The cleanest tiebreaker we know is who the ad account belongs to. If it's your brand and your money, and you're the one launching the ads, start with the tool that shows you what competitors keep paying for and tells you the truth about your own numbers. That's PirateAds, and the competitor side costs nothing to try. If you manage a large spend with a creative team around you, book the Motion demo. Both answers are right for someone. Just don't pay $750 a month for the one you didn't need.
